Advocacy Resource Exchange

DJ Thompson & Associates were commissioned by Advocacy Resources Exchange to develop an Advocacy Finder database which will soon be available online. ARX is a second-tier agency that provides information and advice about advocacy. Their aim is to create a more equal and just society for people who are marginalised and at risk of social exclusion, by empowering them though quality independent advocacy. 

Solihull Action through Advocacy

Solihull Action through Advocacy is a charity created in 1995 to support adults with learning disabilities living in Solihull. SATA are our development partners for the Advocacy Administration Database.

CareSys from Integrated Support Systems

Integrated Support Systems are a leading supplier of specialised software to the care industry, meeting all the needs of independent homes, small groups and the corporate market. DJ Thompson & Associates are working in partnership with ISS to bring Behaviour Support functionality to CareSys.

The National Autistic Society has supported this development and has invested in the system.

School partners

Oak Bank School

Oak Bank is a school and hostel for children with emotional and behavioural needs.

DJ Thompson & Associates are proud to be partnering the school in a range of developments intended to make a wide range of attainment and behavioural information more readily available for staff to use. This helps them help the pupils to more fully realise their individual potential.

Oak Bank School and DJ Thompson & Associates are keen to talk to other schools about this innovative work.

Oak Bank School is the result of a project set up by the local education service aimed to help both those children able to return to mainstream schooling after a while, and those who could not. The school was opened in 1976 under the auspices of the Local Education Authority, Bedfordshire County Council.

Bradstow School

We have been working with Bradstow School on the Behaviour Support Database and other projects since 2004. Staff at the school are always willing to share their practical experience of using the database with others.

The fundamental aim of Bradstow School is to support the children and students to acquire the skills to self-manage their behaviour and to develop language and communication skills. They recognize that these things are two sides of the same coin, and that if they can enable a child to communicate, even at a most basic level, this will have a positive impact upon their behaviour. Absolutely everything they do in the school is therefore directed towards this end. The curriculum, activities both in and outside of the classroom, in fact every single time a member of staff engages with a child, are all used as a vehicle through which they can facilitate the child to acquire these skills.

There is a mass of good, zero cost software available on the internet. We have collected together links to some of the better ones and put them on our website. These include Microsoft-compatible office applications, DTP and drawing tools, accounting software and useful utilities. Even as professional developers, we sometimes use some of these ourselves.
